About Stuart Carlyon

Stuart Carlyon is an independent financial advisory firm built on a simple belief: good financial advice starts with understanding people.

For more than 20 years, the team has worked closely with clients to help them achieve their financial goals, make informed financial decisions, guided by clients’ priorities, values, and stage of life. Advice is independent and broad, shaped through long-term relationships rather than products or quick fixes.

The firm was founded by advisers who chose to stay away from more transactional models in favour of providing truly independent advice. Today, that approach is supported by a team with experience across accounting, banking, stockbroking, and trustee services, all united by a commitment to putting clients first.

Growth has been steady and deliberate, coming from long-standing relationships and referrals from trusted professionals. Based in Parnell, Stuart Carlyon is a collaborative and down-to-earth team that takes pride in its work and genuinely cares about how it operates.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for an experienced senior or principal financial adviser who enjoys working closely with clients and is motivated by building long-term relationships and delivering clients’ financial goals.

You’ll work within a non-discretionary advice model, meaning advisers remain actively involved with clients and portfolio decisions, with transparency and trust at the centre of every relationship.

For the right person, this role offers more than employment. It provides the opportunity to build a long-term career, with a genuine pathway to ownership in an established and successful financial planning practice - offering the ability to build value over time without the uncertainty of a typical start-up. You will be taking on a great role and working in a supportive team environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing financial advice across investments, retirement planning, wealth structuring and estate planning
  • Contributing to the firm’s strategy, systems, and growth initiatives
  • Managing and deepening client relationships through regular reviews and ongoing financial planning and goal setting
  • Developing new client opportunities through referrals and professional networks
  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues, building capability and developing career progression
  • Maintaining high professional, compliance, and ethical standards
  • Continuing values that have established a credible and trusted brand

About You

You’re an experienced financial adviser who enjoys working closely with people and takes pride in doing your work well. You value independence and professionalism, enjoy being part of a collaborative team, and bring a considered, long-term perspective to your work and the wider business.
You’ll bring:

  • 7-10+ years’ experience as a financial adviser or in senior financial services roles
  • Strong technical knowledge across financial planning, investments, wealth strategies, tax structures, and relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Appropriate professional qualifications (CFP, or intention to complete, this is highly desirable)
  • Clear communication skills and a client first approach in all that you do
  • Experience contributing to the leadership or management of a team or business, whether through mentoring, supervision, or broader operational involvement
  • Commercial awareness and sound business judgement, with an interest in how a professional services firm operates and grows
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with a desire for a long-term career, and an interest in ownership and building value over time

What’s On Offer

  • A unique opportunity to invest in your own future
  • An annuity-style revenue model, supporting independent advice with no product or sales pressure
  • The opportunity to build long-term wealth with a pathway to equity ownership in an established business
  • A flexible and collaborative working environment
  • Trust, autonomy, and the chance to practise advice in a values-driven boutique advisory firm
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities
